The United States Map Project

State Image Map

  The United States Map Project

Volunteers from the Verizon TelecomPioneers visit local elementary schools bringing with them a beautiful color 9’x 11’ carpet of the Untied States.  The map rug is rolled out and presented to one classroom.  The Pioneers engage the students in various activities involving the 50 United States.

When the Pioneers leave, the map is left in the classroom and additional student activity sheets are given to the teacher to use for years to come.

Mother Goose Fairy Tale Fun

In order to spark an interest in reading, Pioneers dress in handmade costumes and visit nursery schools throughout Long Island.  Mother Goose reads to the students and gives each child a fairy tale book to take home.

In addition to our nursery school project, our active employees were contacted by intra-company email and offered a free nursery rhyme book for their own children sent to them via company mail.  Once books were read, certificates and stickers were sent to the child.

Project:Connect launches!

The TelecomPioneers Association is pleased to announce the release of the organization's new signature education project, Project: Connect, after two years of development. Project: Connect combines education with the popularity of video games. The seven games are: E-Mail: Connect, Compression: Connect, Fiber Optic: Connect, Cable: Connect, Satellite: Connect, Cellular: Connect, and VoIP: Connect.
“We're pleased to offer youngsters this fun and educational program,” said Marty Lee, president of TelecomPioneers. “with Project: Connect, the principles behind modern telecommunications are at their fingertips.”
Project: Connect targets 4th through 7th graders and is available at no charge to schools, community centers and other organizations. The project is fully funded by the TelecomPioneers Association. double red line

Power Up To Read is a high- tech educational program focusing on improving the reading skills of 4th and 5th graders. It is a multimedia program delivered through the Internet, on CD, or in print. Power Up To Read is delivered through the telling of two folk tales. One is an African Ashanti folktale titled: "Hungry Spider and Turtle." The second book is: "Why the Sun Travels Slowly Across the Sky," and it is a Hawaiian legend. Each of the folk tales is supported by additional information that provides scientific lessons behind the stories.

The online version of the PUTR program is located at http://putr.telecompioneers.org. All materials are also available to download for FREE in English and Canadian French.
