Welcome words

A Note from our President

This year my theme will be “Ladles of Love“ - providing help in our local communities wherever it’s needed. During my term as Pioneer President, I will align with Verizon’s focus on education, literacy, homelessness and domestic violence. Sadly in today’s society, a survey taken on Long Island, based upon 259,000 people reported that many were struggling to make ends meet. The survey also reported that 40,000 children and 39,000 seniors go to bed hungry every night. There are approximately 800 food pantries servicing Long Island, almost half had to turn people away because they had no food on their shelves to hand out. My focus will bring more awareness to this very real and large problem.

Did you know that one out of every five people will be a victim of domestic violence in their lifetime? We will be introducing many projects to help support and bring awareness and help to these victims.

We will continue to support our troops with our collections and mailings to Iraq. Our Past President Lorraine has  initiated and supported many programs focusing on veterans needs. Sadly they are often forgotten. They have earned and deserve our respect and admiration. Were it not for them we would not enjoy all the freedoms we take for granted daily.

Yours in Pioneering,

Linda Steuerwald
Paumanok Chapter President
